Both salt and pepper grinders were created in collaboration with Cas Holman for Areaware. The grinders reflect a strong influence from the Italian Memphis Movement, as well as inspiration from gestural and toy-like forms. They are a deliberate balance between tabletop accessories and the playful functionality of a salt and pepper grinder.

More than one billion people, or 20% of the world’s population, live without electricity. Vast rural areas in Africa and Asia are without power, limiting access to education, health, safety, and social mobility.
Juice Box is an open energy system concept that allows people to capture energy from multiple sources, store and transport it to where it is needed and power devices, even in the most remote locations.
Designed to be flexible, Juice Box supports multiple energy sources—from the electrical grid, solar, car battery, or even kinetic. It is the vision for a simple device that gives people, regardless of where they live, safe and reliable access to much-needed electrical power.

Purple is a modern take on the traditional locket. It connects wirelessly and filters through contact in your social networks, receiving images and messages from friends and family, that are just for you. Purple invites you to take a peek at what’s inside, pause from your hectic daily life and smile at a moment you share with the people who matter most.
Today’s firehose of information, alerts and notifications has the ability to connect us to anyone at any given time but often, it takes us away from the people and moments we cherish. Purple is designed to help us remember the important things in our lives. Like a traditional locket, it allows us to carry treasured keepsakes of the people we love.

Our sense of smell is the most important link to our memory, yet is often the most overlooked. This project is an ongoing experiment that gives people the opportunity to blindly smell a scent that they come into contact with every day, for example, their shampoo or bed linens.
While some described the scents as something that was “somehow familiar”, others had specific feelings, people or memories that they associated with the scent. For this experiment, I am most interested in continuing to learn about how our senses and unconscious mind help link us to memories, people, places and experiences.

Feeder is customized to a bird’s seed preferences and natural attraction to specific colors, providing birds a tailored feeding system to suit their needs.
The function of the patterned openings is two-fold. First, to serve as grips for birds to perch and second, to dispense the bird seed. The varying size and shape of the patterned openings is based on the size and shape of the species of birds’ beak and specific seed preference.
Lastly, the functionality of the feeder color palette is based on a bird species attraction to a particular color, enabling each feeder to attract it's own species of bird.
Across the U.S., and specifically in Washington State, there is a strong initiative to introduce more Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) learning materials in the public school curriculum. While STEM is a great step toward addressing the need for more science-ready graduates, many teachers consider engineering unfamiliar, overwhelming to learn and difficult to incorporate into their existing curriculum.
The EduKit is a concise, approachable and actionable tool that empowers teachers to both understand and teach engineering. The Engineering EduKit takes an overwhelming and complex subject and makes it accessible, adaptable and empowering to teachers by offering clear guidance, examples and templates. It gives them the freedom to teach in their own style, while adhering to specific teaching standards.

"U" necklace simply hangs around the neck, with weights at each end. With no clasp or additional parts, the bead weights keep the necklace hanging loose, yet securely resting around the neck.

We are all, in varying degrees, creatures of habit. We have grown to have a predictable experience and interaction with the objects, people, materials and animals that are intertwined into our lives. This project aims to encourage and question our relationship with the infinite world around us in our everyday lives.
Voices and Noises is a device that tunes us into the world of unacknowledged sounds within the environment around us. The device uses the lo-tech technology of a stethoscope as the underlying tool that concentrates on specific sounds. The wooden piece houses the bell of the stethoscope, the rubber tubing transmits the sound and the rubber earpiece is held up to your ear.
